'Other Tongue is about a young boy who is obsessed with the “idea” of Bollywood and dreams of making it in Bombay someday. The conflict of the film lies in him not knowing how to speak Hindi, which acts as a driving force in his pursuit of a very far-fetched endeavor of learning Hindi in a short span of time. The rest of the film takes us through this absurd process of his, the relationships he forms, and the realizations that dawn upon him in the process. The brief given to us was to build a narrative that was "personal" and "anecdotal".The entire film is an exaggerated visual depiction of desires, conflicts, and incidents from my life – as a girl from Chennai who has been obsessed with Bollywood for as long as she can remember but has never been able to speak Hindi. This film was written, directed, shot and edited over the course of 3 weeks by me (Dwani Guru) with the help of my crew (Priyanka Jasani, Sahir Hariharan and Sidharth Saxena) during Transitions II, the Pre-Thesis Project for the Semester 7 Film Major students at the Srishti Institute of Art, Design and Technology (2018-2019).
